The Espial STB Client demonstration will showcase the first high-performance cloud UX based on HTML5 and RDK with an intelligent application framework to ensure the highest STB performance. Espial will showcase an unparalleled user experience with captivating HTML5-enabled interfaces and advanced 3D animation effects such as rubber banding, built into the navigation. The demonstration will also highlight seamless access to popular Web applications such as YouTube on TV and demonstrate the possibilities of a reimagined consumer TV UX. The Espial STB Client optimizes the development and deployment of compelling TV services on managed STB platforms. Through recent innovations and technological developments, including open Web standards such as WebKit, CSS3, HTML5, and the Reference Development Kit (RDK), the Espial STB Client helps operators deliver an exceptional user experience with faster time-to-market and significantly lower development costs.
In conjunction with the Espial STB Client, Espial will also showcase the Espial Media Service Platform (MSP). An advanced STB UX must be closely tied to a TV service delivery platform. Espial MSP is a powerful headend system with integration, merchandising, multidevice, cloud UX delivery, and TV service management capabilities. With a comprehensive range of multiscreen capabilities, including service customization, enhanced content protection, and cross-device use-case support, operators can deliver the highest quality of experience to subscribers. The Espial MSP can be customized to support TV Everywhere services by market segments based on region, language, and other requirements. This allows operators to tailor TV channel lineups, pricing models, movies, and services including linear TV, video-on-demand, time-shift television, digital video recording, and pay-per-view for their target markets. Through a robust set of controls, operators can easily meet multiscreen content licensing obligations by limiting access to content based on geography, user, and device. The powerful platform also allows operators to support cross-device use cases, such as the one-time setting of parental controls from any device, place-shifting across devices including STBs, bookmarking between devices, and unified searching.
At IBC2013, Espial will also demonstrate the award-winning Espial TV Browser. Based on the powerful WebKit rendering engine, the Espial TV Browser is Web-video ready with built-in Adobe® Flash®, and supports more of HTML5 and the latest W3C Web and interactive TV standards than any other commercial browser. The powerful Espial TV Browser is one of the first TV browsers to be approved for YouTube on TV. Using the Espial TV Browser, consumer electronics manufacturers and content providers worldwide can deliver a richer multimedia user experience that includes compelling 3D user interfaces as well as full access to Web video and social media from the cloud. Through a highly intuitive user interface, the Espial TV Browser delivers an advanced Web browsing and over-the-top video experience on a wide range of devices, including Smart TVs, set-top boxes, and media streamers.
