…OnAir’s inflight mobile phone and Wi-Fi services, for emailing, text messages, updating social networks, phone calls and Internet access. The services, which allow passengers to use their own personal electronic devices, will be launched later in 2012. Garuda, Indonesia`s national carrier, will install Mobile OnAir and Internet OnAir across its fleet of 28 A330 aircraft, which serves destinations across Asia, the Middle East and to Europe. Garuda’s existing A330s will have the OnAir equipment retrofitted, with the first installation in November; the hardware will be linefitted to the 21 new aircraft on order.
OnAir’s services are available everywhere in the world, thanks to more than 80 regulatory approvals and around 350 roaming agreements with mobile network operators; combined with Inmarsat’s worldwide satellite networks, OnAir provides consistent global coverage. OnAir currently uses the SwiftBroadband network and is also a Distribution Partner for Global Xpress, Inmarsat’s Ka-band network that will be available from 2015.
