SatBroadcasting™ — This report includes new information on Bridge Technologies, Euroopean Broadcasting Union + Ericsson, Wowza

October 11, 2011

[SatNews] For those involved in the SatBroadcasting™ environment, here is important market segment news that could well be of interest to you…

  • Bridge Technologies has launched major advances in OTT service analysis as well as the world’s first DVB-T2 MI solution. For IP&TV ME&NA 2011, Bridge Technologies will display the world’s first complete monitoring solution for DVB-T2-MI. DVB-T2 is the system used in 70 percent of the contribution infrastructure currently under construction, and in many recent deployments in the EMEA region. DVB-T2 is already in use by operators in Europe, selected for its outstanding characteristics in single frequency networks, and for the 30 percent bandwidth efficiency gain of DVB-T2 over DVB-T. Bridge Technologies has solved the complex monitoring challenge posed by the DVB-T2-MI format, and T2-MI monitoring is now available as an option across the range of VideoBRIDGE probes. Bridge also has will show their new VB252 monitoring probe for DVB-T2 networks, and part of the industry’s first complete monitoring solution for DVB-T2 including the T2-MI protocol. The dual-input VB252 provides external GPS lock for accurate drift monitoring for SFN networks, high-quality MER measurement and level readings. For monitoring at transmitter sites and field locations for quality validation, the VB252 is available from Q4. The Company’s new Traffic Analysis option provides in-depth advanced monitoring and analysis of IP protocols and services across the complete range of VideoBRIDGE probes. With the Traffic Analysis option, operators can combine detailed monitoring and analytics of broadcast/IP streams and all OTT services under a single unified VideoBRIDGE environment with consistent display and reporting features. Also presented will be Bridge Technologies’ new graphics option for the VBC extends the VideoBRIDGE system’s outstanding clarity of data presentation with a comprehensive new display engine for completely diagrammatic status displays using any design the user creates. Taking graphic objects from vector graphics programs such as Microsoft Visio, the graphics option allows users to quickly build diagrammatic displays that update with live data from the VideoBRIDGE VBC controller server. Another new product will be microVB™ Advanced Data Gathering, the first viable solution for deep packet remote analysis at the STB — now has complete data-gathering capabilities, allowing operators to capture any packet that passes through the unit and to forward those packets filtered into third party protocol analysis software. The microVB’s new advanced data gathering function gives media service providers and telcos unique 24/7 real-time analysis and low-level analytics capability, allowing unprecedented accuracy in fault resolution of any condition at the subscriber premises, and previously unavailable insight into how factors such as packet loss levels affect real-world service quality.

  • Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) is bringing the 2012 London Games to a global audience of almost five billion, after supplying the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) with solutions for the delivery of coverage of the event, and other future sporting occasions, to broadcasters around the world. This premium global sports content will be distributed to EBU members and other rights holders across the globe over satellite and fibre networks in MPEG-2 SD SD or MPEG-4 AVC 4:2:2 HD using nearly 1,000 Ericsson RX8200 professional receivers, part of the company’s contribution and distribution portfolio. This extends the relationship between the EBU and the Ericsson team, which has previously provided the EBU with solutions for major sporting occasions including the 2008 Games in Beijing, Tour De France, Wimbledon and European football. The EBU operates a global satellite and fibre network out of Geneva, Switzerland, covering all of Europe, the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region. The requirements of the broadcasters that it serves for differing equipment configurations and the many and varied ways in which receivers are used are driving the need for a flexible receiver platform. The Ericsson RX8200 Advanced Modular Receiver has been designed to precisely meet these requirements.
