Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM) has launched its Airborne managed network services offering for broadband access to airborne platforms. Globecomm has been awarded multiple contracts valued at approximately $4 million to provide U.S. Government end-users with Ku- and X-band aeronautical services. Combining its global teleports, satellite capacity, dedicated terrestrial backbone, Network Operations Center and 24×7 Help Desk, Globecomm will deliver the same quality voice, data and video services and support to aircraft that it provides to land- and maritime-based end-users. These services enable the U.S. Government to transmit large amounts of data to and from aircraft for multiple applications. The X-band services are provided through Globecomm’s commercial X-band facility in Western Europe; Ku-band services are provided from the Globecomm teleport facilities in the U.S. and Europe. All services are connected directly to customers or to the Globecomm-hosted Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) via its secure global terrestrial network.
