XTAR, LLC has named James Chambers to the newly-created position of Vice President, Engineering, as the company continues its expansion in order to meet the unique mission requirements of government users worldwide. Chambers brings nearly three decades of engineering experience to create the most effective technical solutions for XTAR’s government and military customers. He is responsible for developing solutions to meet each XTAR customer’s unique engineering requirements and for managing the company’s satellite and terrestrial resources to support government missions as effectively as possible. In addition, he will help strategically plan for future capabilities that will support the XTAR’s growth.

“Jim has a wealth of experience in creating network solutions for government customers and in using satellite, terrestrial and hybrid communications to provide full, life-cycle systems,” said Philip Harlow, President and COO of XTAR. “His expertise in satellite technology will enable XTAR to provide innovative services that will better support this important customer base.”

XTAR is one of only two commercial providers of satellite capacity in the X-band frequency that is reserved for military and government users. The company operates two satellites with a combined footprint extending from Denver on the west to Singapore on the east, allowing the company to serve vital military and other government activities in the Middle East and Southwest Asia. Chambers started his satellite industry career in 1982 as a systems engineer supporting the technical preparation of government contracts at CONTEL Spacecom. He gained more engineering experience with several other satellite network providers, designing and implementing both satellite and hybrid satellite/terrestrial communications networks. In 2006, he joined DRS Technical Services to lead an engineering team responsible for the full life cycle of satellite, terrestrial and hybrid communication networks for the military and other government customers. Chambers holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
