SIRG’ing Forward

[SatNews] The newly restructured Satellite IRG (sIRG), formerly known as The Satellite Users Interference Reduction Group (SUIRG), is now known as Satellite IRG to broaden its mission beyond the needs of the user community. Today the group announced that it will be working with key satellite operators and equipment manufacturers at NAB this week.



sIRG will be working closely with GVF and the newly formed RFI EUI at the show, looking at ways to tackle interference, and finding out about the latest carrier ID technology from the show floor..



“If we are to drive forward the fight against satellite interference, it is absolutely imperative to get the whole industry behind us,” commented Martin Coleman, Executive Director, sIRG. “As such, industry events like NAB are a great opportunity to engage with many influential figures under-one-roof.”



Since the restructure in March, sIRG hosted a conference panel focusing on the organization’s supporting role for RFI EUI at Satellite 2011. GVF, supported by sIRG, hosted a half day conference at the event, which included presentations by Cobham, Comtech, the US Navy and the Space Data Association.



Following on from NAB, sIRG will be attending a number of other key industry events, with the aim of discussing the restructure and the main focus of sIRG for 2011, including rolling out carrier ID throughout the industry, improving training and certification for satellite installers, and introducing type approvals for satellite equipment.
