Arqiva… A Sky Sports Soldier Salute (Content)

[SatBroadcasting(tm)] Sky Sports selected Arqiva’s SNG and teleport services for its HD broadcasts from Camp Bastion, the British military’s main base in Afghanistan.

Arqiva enabled Sky Sports to include recorded coverage in their programming throughout the week, as well as live HD links in Sky Sports’ Soccer AM (Saturday 18 December) and Super Sunday (Sunday 19 December). The morale boosting visit included key Sky Sports presenters and the Barclays Premier League Trophy travelling to Afghanistan. Regular Soccer AM features, including ‘Crossbar Challenge’ and ‘Skill Skool’, were filmed and distributed from the base, as was the final of a forces six-a-side tournament. With the sudden snows cancelling many UK sports fixtures on the Sunday, Arqiva enabled Sky to extend their programming to include a live tour of the base and live two-way questioning of the studio-based football pundits by the troops.
