ARINC Incorporated has announced its long-time customer Cathay Pacific Airways has received approval to use the ARINC AeroConnx(tm) Electronic Flight Bag solution and has initiated operational evaluation. AeroConnx is the world’s first comprehensive Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) solution, offering airlines integrated management of EFB applications, aircraft content and data, message delivery, and datalink communication services. Cathay Pacific participated actively in the development of AeroConnx, and has installed the system on its B777-300 aircraft undergoing trial evaluation. ARINC has also recently deployed its GateFusion(sm) service to provide Cathay Pacific with high-bandwidth gatelink at Hong Kong International Airport in support of the operational trial.
AeroConnx offers airlines a seamless integration of EFB applications, hardware, communications media, content, and configuration. It also provides high-bandwidth communications and automated data delivery. This allows airlines using EFBs to focus on the applications they need to enhance business and operational processes. Key components of the AeroConnx platform include the EFB application suite managed by ARINC’s Program Manager, the ARINC EFB Content Delivery Management System (CDMS), ARINC’s AeroSync(tm) communications and aircraft data solution, and ARINC GateFusion, the first common-use wireless gatelink service for airlines worldwide.
ARINC is currently delivering an added capability to Cathay Pacific offices to enable easy management of EFB content via CDMS servers. In addition, ARINC AeroSync will allow the airline to select the most cost-effective communications media for the aircraft, with support for portable USB storage devices, ACARS(r), gatelink, and satellite communications including Iridium and Inmarsat. ARINC GateFusion provides airlines a consistent wireless interface for data delivery between aircraft at the gate and remote host applications.
