Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) announced Swisscom, Switzerland’s leading telecom provider, selected Harmonic’s ProStream™ 4000 real-time multi-screen transcoder to power Swisscom’s new WebTV and MobileTV service, encompassing more than 30 channels delivered in multiple formats for viewing on a wide variety of devices. The ProStream 4000 is a key component of Harmonic’s MediaPrism™ Convergence Suite for multi-screen video delivery, and makes it possible for Swisscom to seamlessly transcode both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) broadcast video content to mobile and Internet formats. Its flexible, software-based all-IP architecture can be easily integrated into an existing IP headend, and offers outstanding performance and reliability, with a field-upgradeable codec library.
Additionally, Changzhi TV, a subsidiary of Changzhi Municipal Radio, Film & TV Bureau in China, has deployed a wide range of Harmonic’s video processing and on-demand solutions to power its new digital TV and time-shifted video on demand (VOD) services. The Harmonic solution provides superior video quality and bandwidth utilization, numerous significant operational efficiencies, and a very powerful, scalable and flexible platform to support Changzhi’s new revenue-generating interactive services. Changzhi TV, located in Shanxi province, launched its new services in December 2009, and is an existing customer of Harmonic’s HFC access solutions.
