Newpoint Technologies — New Directions For Ticketing + Inventory Management

Newpoint Technologies (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Integral Systems, Inc.) demo’d their new integrated Trouble Ticketing and Inventory Management System (IMS) for its Compass Network Management System (NMS) last week in Maryland. The new Compass Trouble Ticketing Module gives operators the ability to quickly and easily open a trouble ticket when there is an alarm on their Compass NMS.

Compass time stamps and populates the ticket with alarm information. An alert is generated and sent to the appropriate technical resource for follow up. Operators are able to easily see from the Compass NMS which alarms and equipment have open tickets, so efforts are not duplicated. The Compass Trouble Ticketing system has the added benefit of building a knowledge base so technicians can easily see what steps were taken the last time an alarm generated a ticket.

Newpoint also demo’d their new Compass Inventory Management System (IMS). With Compass IMS, operators are better able to manage critical network equipment to ensure the network is running at peak performance. As new equipment is added to the Compass NMS, the information is automatically populated in the Compass IMS. Compass IMS allows operators to see equipment details — location, use, make, manufacturer, model no., firmware rev., serial no., and so on. In addition, Compass IMS can track maintenance schedules, warranty periods, maintenance renewals, etc. Operators can then generate reports on the inventory to better manage their network, including percentage uptime, number of alarms, usage statistics and more.

Both modules are designed with fully customizable database fields to meet the needs and requirements of their operator. By being fully integrated with the Compass NMS, operators are not required to enter data in multiple locations and can quickly see the status of everything going on in their network so they can focus on minimizing the impact of any failures on the network. The new modules can be used in conjunction with Compass or are capable of running independently in a manual fashion.
