HARMONIC — Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) announced the Electra™ 8000 universal encoder was selected by Boston’s NBC affiliate WHDH-TV for the recent HD broadcast of the 7 News pre-game and post-game shows at hockey’s premiere regular-season event, the 2010 NHL Bridgestone Winter Classic, as well as the local broadcast of the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, February 12-28. WHDH-TV selected the Electra 8000 for these highly-viewed sports events due to its MPEG-2 1080i video encoding quality, compact design and improved bandwidth efficiency. For the 7 News pre-game and post-game shows at the outdoor match-up between long-time rivals the Philadelphia Flyers® and Boston Bruins® at Fenway Park, WHDH-TV used the Electra 8000 to simplify the transmission of multiple camera feeds from Fenway Park to their studio by delivering the highest quality MPEG-2 HD encoding at the lowest bit-rates in a compact 1-RU design. Electra’s multi-channel HD encoding capability at the venue eliminated the need for WHDH-TV to transfer costlier baseband HD video back to the studio.

  • STREAMBOX — At NAB, the Company will introduce the SBT3-9550, their first hardware-based encoder to offer SD or HD in a fully portable form factor for live or file-based video acquisition. Ideal for field newsgathering and other mobile applications, the SBT3-9550 offers the ability to transport full-resolution HD video at speeds up to 20 Mbps. The compact, lightweight, and rugged chassis can be easily transported in a backpack, and can be deployed in minutes with a range of power options including AC and DC connectors as well as a Li-Poly battery system. With the system’s intuitive touch-screen interface, non-technical users can connect quickly and easily via dual Ethernet as well as Wi-Fi platforms such as 3G/4G mobile broadband devices including browser-capable smartphones.

    Streambox SBT3-5300 info…
Additionally, the new SBT3-5300 is ideal for live news broadcasts, distribution of video to cable headends, SNG/ENG vehicles, and other video delivery applications that require high reliability and performance with minimal power consumption. The 1RU solution packages all of the advanced networking capabilities of Streambox‘s ACT-L3™ codec in a smaller, lighter-weight chassis — delivering unrivaled SD video quality and compression at data rates ranging from 64 Kbps to 15 Mbps. The system’s advanced forward error correction and burst error protection helps to mitigate packet loss and network jitter, and its low end-to-end latency makes the SBT3-5300 ideal for video conferencing as well as broadcasting. An easy-to-use Web interface enables seamless local or remote system management.

  • Streambox streaming platform info…
