SatBroadcasting: Appear TV DeScrambles Up New Products

At SCTE Cable-tec 2009, Appear TV, a global provider of nexgen head-ends for broadcast and IP television, will launch two new products into the North American market. The company will show a high density bulk descrambler and an advanced MPEG-2/4 SD and HD decoder designed to help cable operators/cable MSOs to meet a growing consumer demand for more channels and more high definition content.

The new Appear TV high density bulk descrambler module allows up to 250 services to be descrambled using a single 1RU chassis.  It also offers support for DVB-CA and AES descrambling, providing a flexible solution for operators looking to increase the number of channels it can offer. The new module also integrates with any software-based conditional access (CA) solution and provides operators looking to resell channels on a single IP backbone with the perfect way of handling the required shift from DVB to AES scrambling.

Appear TV’s new advanced MPEG-4 HD decoder enables up to 30 HD channels to be decoded in either SD/HD or MPEG-4 AVC/SD/HD format, including HD to SD down-conversion. The module also enables SD/HD-SDI output with embedded audio. The new multi-format decoder module fits into the DC1x00/SC2x00/MC3x00 series of products and can be used in combination with any input and output modules available. This new module will enable cable operators to take advantage of the increasing commercial opportunities for HD content.
