This is an excellent event for communications, information technology and electronics providers to learn about new business opportunities which will help enhance competitiveness. The Space-Enabled Global Communications and Electronic Systems Industry Update will be held Thursday, August 6, from 8:30 am. to 1:30 p.m. at Cisco’s facilities, located at 130 Theory Drive in Irvine. The seminar features global communications experts from government and industry — including Cisco and Space Systems/Loral — who will share information about emerging integration technologies, such as the Internet Routers in Space (IRIS) initiative, spot beam antenna technology, increased satellite capacity and the resulting next-generation applications that will revolutionize communications. Lunch and a tour of Cisco will also be offered.
“When satellites are equipped with higher performing antennas and routers capable of handling Internet Protocol data packets the industry will be transformed,” stated Andrea Seastrand, Executive Director of CSA. “Increasing the performance of this unique utility will make global communications faster, more reliable, and less expensive than current satellite Internet technology.” By integrating advancements in information technology and electronic systems with satellite platforms, space enterprise community leaders expect to improve and enhance multiple industries and diverse services, including global communications, environmental monitoring, agriculture production, weather forecasting, transportation and goods movement, energy management, financial transactions, telemedicine, homeland security and space exploration. “It is technically possible to provide a hundred-fold increase in satellite-based broadband capacity,” added Steven Boutelle, CEO, Cisco IRIS. Space, aerospace, communications and electronics industry professionals, as well as interested faculty and students are encouraged to attend. Online registration is on a first-come, first served basis for the limited spaces available.
