As of April 15th SatCom Global has been awarded full Distribution Partner status by Inmarsat for its FleetBroadband services, and joins a group of 12 FleetBroadband Distribution Partners worldwide who have built a solid long-term relationship with Inmarsat. To gain this status has required proven experience of the marketplace, and a reputation for strong customer service and support.
This is a significant step for SatCom, already a Distribution Partner for Inmarsat BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) and SPS (Satellite Phone Services) as well as advancements within SatCom’s own infrastructure, this new partnership will provide customers with greater flexibility and security when using Inmarsat FleetBroadband. This not only includes the provision of reliable equipment and airtime, but also a multi-lingual 24/7 helpdesk. In addition, there are firewalls for Internet security, an extensive knowledgebase for customer enquiries and the facilities for direct data streaming. After successfully repositioning its new I-4 satellite constellation earlier this year the company can now offer its broadband services on a truly global basis including new and developing markets, from offshore oil and gas facilities to naval forces around the world.
FleetBroadband states they are the first maritime communications service to simultaneously provide cost-effective broadband data (with speeds of up to 432 kbps) and voice through a compact antenna, regardless of the type and size of vessel. Customers can send and receive email with large attachments, run complex data applications, and make and receive voice calls all at the same time and at competitive and affordable pricing.
There are currently two terminals available: SAILOR® FleetBroadband 250 and SAILOR® FleetBroadband 500. The models differ in performance and capability but both use a stabilized directional antenna, which can vary in size and weight according to the system requirements. All are capable of supporting Standard IP, Streaming IP, voice, Euro ISDN and SMS. Inmarsat will be introducing the FleetBroadband 150 service, targeted at smaller fishing and leisure vessels, later in 2009. Inmarsat has been developing mobile satellite services for nearly 30 years.
