CAE and Israel Aerospace Industries are in the final phases of developing an unmanned air vehicle mission training (UMT) system, which will be revealed at the Aero India 2009 show in Bangalore, India.
IAI says the new system will offer a complete range of UAV training needs, including planning, briefing, execution and debriefing for pilots, sensor operators and mission commanders, and can also be configured to include any type of UAV or mission payload. Scenarios can be created to support individual, crew, and co-operative training requirements, with malfunctions inserted and trainees monitored via an instructor operating system. Ofer Haruvi, general manager of IAI‘s MagNet Division, says the UMT system’s architecture also considers long-term growth potential to support future UAV programs, reduce risk, and maximizes commonality between resources. The system can also serve as an experimentation testbed, allowing customers to add advanced UAVs or network-centric warfare capabilities and to evaluate concepts of operations. The UMT system is supported by a network-centric operations framework called Compozix, which links with other air, land and naval simulators and IAI’s operational UAV systems, command and control equipment and air combat manoeuvring instrumentation datalink networks to support joint training activities. A number of systems will soon be supplied to undisclosed customers, the company adds.
