Expand Networks, provider of application acceleration solutions over the Wide Area Network (WAN), announced that it has launched the Expand Accelerator in a PC-104+ form factor. The Accelerator 1610 delivers flexibility and scalability in a condensed form factor, and lives in a host device without space or power challenges even in harsh or space constrained environments. This makes it a good choice for integration into mobile communications that use the PC104 stack.

The Accelerator 1610 offers a platform of integrated services, including WAN Optimization, Acceleration, Management and Visibility, and Security. Ideal for all SATCOM environments, the Expand solution solves network challenges frequently encountered in dynamic bandwidth and dynamic latency networks, such as BGAN, INMARSAT, and MF-TDMA. It allows for the use of all subscribed bandwidth and additional throughput gains enabled by Expand’s best-of-breed byte-level caching and compression.
On a practical level, the Accelerator 1610 in a PC-104+ form factor can live in a satellite modem at a fixed location and can also provide a “network in a box”, a briefcase case solution in which the antenna points to a satellite dish. For military in battlefield situations, oil rig employees, VIPs, corporate executives, and many others deployed to remote locales, it is an ideal way to assure that crucial communications are not interrupted and that information is received in the most timely fashion possible.
