BUSINESS — Logica is going to bid for the system support component of the 2.1 billion euros Galileo procurement, which went to tender this month. Requests to participate in the Full Operational Capability (FOC) Development phase are due for submission in early August. Logica is the largest independent supplier to the Galileo program, having been selected for more than 70 million euros of software-intensive ground segment contracts during the In-Orbit Validation phase. The FOC will be the full Galileo system due to go live in 2013. It is being procured by ESA on behalf of the EC. The In-Orbit Validation (IOV) comprises two prototype satellites now in orbit, four pre-operational satellites to be launched in 2009, and associated ground facilities. IOV is under development for ESA by companies across Europe. - BUSINESS — Microsemi Corporation (NASDAQ:MSCC), a manufacturer of high performance analog mixed signal integrated circuits and semiconductors, has announced its acquisition of substantially all of the assets of SEMICOA. Founded in 1968, SEMICOA designs, develops, and manufactures semiconductors and smart munitions optoelectronics for the high reliability military, commercial aerospace, and satellite markets. Total consideration for SEMICOA was approximately $25 million in cash. Microsemi expects the acquisition will be accretive.
