BUSINESS — Agilent has released their 2008 Aerospace/Defense Symposium papers on CD. The 15 technical papers contained on this CD provide Aerospace/Defense engineers with an abundance of technically-rich content presented in two tracks: Test System Development and Military Communications Test. Also included is information on wideband vector analyzer calibration issues and time interval analysis measurements for radar. - BUSINESS — Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM) has been awarded a mobile infrastructure contract from First Networks Operations Inc. (FIRST), a Canadian mobile telecommunications operator. Globecomm will provide FIRST with a combination of services and systems extending a GSM wireless network to unserved and underserved businesses and consumers across northern Canada, based on Globecomm’s award-winning SatCell technology. FIRST is partnering with the Canadian First Nations and provincial hydro companies to deploy a mobile network backhauled by a combination of satellite and fiber.
- BUSINESS — NSSL has been selected as one of the first Tier one providers of the new ThurayaIP services. This completes NSSL’s Thuraya service offering by expanding on its initial 2007 Tier one agreement to distribute Thuraya handsets. Under the terms of its distribution agreement, NSSL will supply handsets and ThurayaIP terminals, set to become the first mobile broadband service to operate in the Pacific region, as well as satellite airtime to registered resellers throughout the world. Prior to signing as a Tier one provider of Thuraya products and services, NSSL purchased airtime and equipment from other third parties. This new deal means that NSSL will have direct access to the full Thuraya suite of products and services and thus be able to offer its resellers the latest Thuraya products.
- MOVING ON UP… AT TELENOR PAKISTAN — Telenor Pakistan has appointed Mr. Jon Eddy Abdullah as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will succeed Mr. Tore Johnsen starting on August 15, 2008. Jon Eddy Abdullah has more than 15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He has been working with infrastructure vendors and several mobile operators, most recently as Chief Operating Officer for Maxis Telecommunications in Malaysia and Chief Technology Officer for DiGi. Mr. Tore Johnsen is moving on to become the CEO of Telenor’s DTAC operation in Thailand.
