Not a happy occurrence for Galaxy 26—of the satellite’s total 37 watt capacity, 15 watts have been lost due to a partial failure. With more than half of the satellite’s total payload gone astray, customers were redirected to Galaxy 25 in the 97° W orbital slot and to Galaxy 28 at 89° W. Some subscribers were rerouted to 99° W, Galaxy 16, with a few service interruptions described as minor in nature. In orbit since 1999, Galaxy 26 was manufactured by Space Systems/Loral and occupied the orbital slot at 93° W. Intelsat does not believe there can be any recovery of the lost payload.
