- BUSINESS — NASA has selected Abacus Technology Corporation of Chevy Chase, Maryland, to provide information management and communications support at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The contract start on October 1st with a five-year base period and four one-year options to extend performance. It is a cost-plus-award-fee contract with indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract line items. If all options are exercised and the maximum amount of work is ordered, the total potential value of the contract is approximately $898 million.
- DELIVERY — SES ASTRA, an SES company (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG), announced that the public channel ARTE will start broadcasting its German program in HD on July 1st via the ASTRA satellite system. The HD program will be broadcast from ASTRA’s prime orbital position 19.2° E. ARTE will use existing and earlier contracted digital capacity from ASTRA. The French language version of Arte HD will be available at a later date. With this HD broadcast, the number of HD channels distributed on the ASTRA Satellite System increases to 35.
- BUSINESS — SkyBitz has announced five additional customers are deploying the company’s tracking solutions. More than 550 fleets rely on the cost-effective SkyBitz GLS technology to track their assets. They include Danny Herman Trucking Inc. of Mountain City, Tennessee, FirstExpress of Nashville, Tennessee, Hoffman Transportation based in Channahon, Illinois, Lawrence Transportation Systems based in Roanoke, Virginia, and Palmetto State Transportation, headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina.
