- SATELLITE BUILD — Space Systems/Loral has been authorized by Satmex (Satelites Mexicanos S.A.B. de C.V.) to initiation their build of their next satellite, Satmex-7. The launch is scheduled for 2011 and the craft will be based on SS/L’s 1300 bus. To occupy orbital slot 114.9° W, Satmex-7 will pack C- and Ku-band transponders.
- CAREER — Now accepting applications for the 2009 Astronaut Candidate Class is NASA. The deadline for the application is July 1st. Those selected might find themselves flying to the ISS for long-duration stays, or even to the moon. To be considered, a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or math and three years of relevant professional experience are required. Typically, successful applicants have significant qualifications in engineering or science, or extensive experience flying high-performance jet aircraft. Teaching experience, including work at the kindergarten through 12th grade level, is considered qualifying. Educators with the appropriate educational background are encouraged to apply.
