Asia Satellite Telecommunications Company Limited (AsiaSat) and Chitkara Technologies Limited (Chitkara) of India now have a lease agreement wherein the latter will be supplied with AsiaSat 2’s C-band transponder capacity for the launch of a new television channel called ‘CUBE 3’ across India. This new channel, scheduled for service launch in July, will be a free to air city centric television service broadcasting in Punjabi language. The programming content will be news and general entertainment focused, targeting primarily viewers in Chandigarh, capital of the Punjab state and one of the most modern and affluent cities in India.
Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM) will introduce its Media Processing Center and architecture to the Asian region at this year’s BroadcastAsia and CommunicAsia 2008 event from the 17th to the 20th of June in Singapore. Visitors to the Hall 7, Booth 7K5-01 will learn about the Media Processing Center architecture, which the company designed for the conversion of video into a wide variety of formats for distribution to cable TV, DVB satellite or handheld, and Internet video, all at many different bit rates and formats for live or file-based applications. From RTE Business we learn of a satcom company move to Dublin, Ireland — Solaris Mobile, a joint venture by SES Astra and Eutelsat Communications back in 2006, expects to drive 50 new jobs to their company over the next three years. The Eutelsat-W2A satellite, already under construction and believed to be ready for launch early next year, will be used to enable TV, video, radio, and a 2-way comm service for handheld mobile devices to be the end result. - Telenor Pakistan has moved up to the number two position in Pakistan with a subscriber base of 17.84 million and a market share of 20.6 per cent, ahead of Ufone at 17.80 million.
