The newest comsat for Spacecom, AMOS-3, is now scheduled to launch from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Thursday, April 24th. Designed and constructed by Israel Aerospace Industries‘ MBG Space Division, AMOS-3 will provide back-up capabilities and service reliability at the 4° W position. The satellite weights only 1,250 kilograms and has completed the final battery of tests on the Land Launch Zenit-3SLB launcher. AMOS-3 will join AMOS-1 and AMOS-2 in that orbital slot and will eventually be AMOS-1’s replacement. Additionally, AMOS-3 will offer additional capacity, coverage areas, and advanced capabilities. They include two, wideband Ka-band beams of up to 500 MHz each and 12 Ku-band 72 MHz transponders with steerable beams for global coverage.
