A Systems Requirements Review (SRR) for Space Exploration Technologies, otherwise known as SpaceX, has been completed. This is the process for what will be the company’s third Falcon 9 / Dragon demo under NASA‘s Commercial Orbit Transportation Services (COTS) program. In fact, the test was conducted with NASA reps in attendance at the company’s new headquarters in Hawthorne, California.
SpaceX will conduct three Falcon 9 / Dragon flights. Demonstrated will be the ability to approach, berth and deliver cargo to the International Space Station and then return cargo to Earth. On the third demo, the Dragon spacecraft will approach the ISS and hold, in position, nearby, with a robotic arm on the station then capturing Dragon and guiding the vessel to a berthing port on the Harmony module. “By providing commercial delivery services to orbit, SpaceX will transform the way the government and private entities access space,” said Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX. The company designed the Dragon spacecraft to transport as many as seven astronauts to orbit Earth and for their return—Hawthorne, California
