HEMISPHERE GPS

All of the outstanding shares of Beeline Technologies Pty. Ltd. is going to be acquired by Hemisphere GPS of Canada for around $21 million. This acquisition will allow Hemisphere to speed up the development of such products as hydraulic-based steering to electronic vehicle control and other auto steering products which use the industry standard controller area network (CAN) interface protocol. Beeline, based in Australia, developers precision-guidance software that provides GPS guidance and auto steering apps for such environments as agriculture, construction, miliary and mining equipment. -
JET BLUE

JetBlue Airways [Nasdaq:JBLU], partnering with Yahoo! [Nasdaq:YHOO], Research In Motion (RIM) [TSX:RIM] [Nasdaq:RIMM] and LiveTV, has become the first U.S. domestic carrier to provide complimentary in-flight e-mail and instant messaging services, starting with “BetaBlue,” the airline’s first Airbus A320 aircraft equipped with an onboard wireless network. Customers using Wi-Fi enabled laptops and smartphones can now stay connected to all in the air via customized in-flight versions of Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger. Those with Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerry smartphones can access their corporate and personal e-mail. LiveTV is the world’s leading provider of live in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems for commercial airlines and a wholly-owned subsidiary of JetBlue. LiveTV’s FCC-licensed air-to-ground spectrum provides full continental U.S. coverage of Wi-Fi services above 10,000 feet. While e-mail and instant messaging options are available today, additional features can be expected in the near future on BetaBlue, JetBlue’s exclusive trial aircraft as new LiveTV products continue to develop. JetBlue customers also enjoy free high-speed wireless Internet access in its home base at Terminal 6 in New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport as well as its Long Beach, California location. The JetBlue Experience provides boundless flair in the air — all at no extra charge to the customer. The airline’s EMBRAER E190 fleet is also outfitted with more than 100 channels of XM Satellite radio, and the majority of its A320 fleet has been retrofitted with the service. -
NOKIA

One of the conditions to the completion of the merger between Nokia and Navteq has been waived by U.S. regulators—the waiting period has been terminated. Navteq stockholders must still approve the merger and there are some other regulatory approvals are required. Back on October 1st, Nolia told all they were bidding on the acquisition of Navteq, immediately after TomTom made known their desire for Tele Atlas. Nokia’s cost for the acquisition is approximately $8.1 billion, or 5.7 billion euros. -
TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEMS, INC.

The company has been issued patents in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Denmark for an invention titled “A Method of Transmitting Data From a Transmitter to One or More Receivers.” The patent describes a method that enables data to be transmitted to a wireless device such that only new information from previous similar messages is sent to the device. The invention would apply to updated repeat messages such as weather, sports, and stock information. Unnecessary data are not sent to the device, saving bandwidth for the operator, and data usage fees for the user. TELENAV

Whereaboutz is a new online and mobile social net service from TeleNav. Friends and family can remain in touch, easily, and the app is free to Facebook members under the ‘Application’ menu selection. This app allows you to update your current location by typing in an address and then add notes as to what you are doing. An interactive map shows members where their friends are located and also allows them to read the comments. There’s a included search function allowing members to look up business nearby so places to meet can be suggested. Friends can also “nudge” one another with a single click for a quick method of determining their “whereaboutz” in the form of a text message advising them their friends wish to know where they are located—Sunnyvale, California
