Globalstar, Inc. [NASDAQ:GSAT] has announced their subsidiary, Globalstar Europe, is launching Static IP (Internet Protocol) address and virtual private network or VPN capability for its satellite data customers throughout western Europe. The new services are possible due to enhancements at the Globalstar gateway ground station located in France. The Globalstar Static IP address modems will communicate to specific IP addresses using the new VPN service. The introduction of the virtual private network service will provide Globalstar Europe customers with an enhanced level of security when making use of the Internet.
Globalstar recently introduced a number of initiatives designed to broaden the market for its data products while increasing the reliability of its satellite duplex data services. The company provided a new remote antenna for its GSP-1720 duplex data modem. Globalstar also recently introduced the MCM-4, a multi-channel modem product capable of providing satellite data throughput speeds of up to 144 Kbps for North American customers. And, all Globalstar duplex modems can now be used with a “store and forward,” feature. This feature enables data to be temporarily stored and, as satellites pass overhead, the information is automatically transferred via the satellite network. The new service in Europe is expected to be available later this month—Milpitas, California
