Motorola, Inc. [NYSE: MOT] is going to demo their high definition (HD) video delivery offerings at the HD World Conference & Exposition. The demonstrations will feature Motorola’s first public display of the DSR-6000 series receivers, the first of a new generation of receiver-transcoders. Announced in September, the DSR-6000 series is the first step in allowing networks to use both MPEG-4 AVC and MPEG-2 compression technologies. The DSR-6000 series enhances network efficiency for programmers and operators by reducing bandwidth requirements by as much as 75 percent, while continuing to deliver high-quality MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 content.
Motorola will also introduce an updated version of its MPEG-2 HD encoder. The 1RU SE-3000 MPEG-2 HD encoder is updated with the newest processor technology and compatible with Motorola’s modular system, allowing it to work with standard definition (SD) encoders. When the SE-3000 encoder is combined with the SE-2000 series, operators can generate greater bandwidth efficiency through statistical multiplexing between HD and SD services. Motorola will also showcase its SE-5100 HD MPEG-4 encoder. The SE-5100 HD MPEG-4 encoder combines receiver functions with advanced encoding technology to deliver video services at the lowest bit rates.
