Procera Networks, Inc. [AMEX: PKT] announced that Comunicación y Telefonía Rural S.A. of Chile has deployed multiple PacketLogic products in its satellite and WiMAX networks to control and optimize bandwidth and to ensure quality of service (QoS) for its growing customer base. Procera reseller and systems integrator I-Systems S.A. of Santiago de Chile provided initial consultation and deployment of the PacketLogic Systems. Formed in 1996 to serve rural Chile, Comunicación y Telefonía Rural (CTR) offers business and residential customers two options in broadband service: Satellite, which is available nationwide, and WiMAX, offered in 8 cities and the surrounding areas in southern Chile.
With the privatization of telecommunications services in Chile, CTR faces a highly competitive environment. Compounding the problem, CTR’s customers make frequent use of several national web sites that allow them to test their bandwidth speeds. CTR received a number of customer complaints of slow connections. Working with I-Systems, CTR initiated testing of the PacketLogic system in their network, with nearly immediate results. PacketLogic has also allowed CTR to identify potential virus activity arising from users’ computers, and then advise the customer to use antivirus protection — further reducing the network traffic load. In the coming months, CTR plans to utilize PacketLogic’s Python-base API to manage the customer disconnect/restore process across the disparate wired and wireless technologies in the network—Los Gatos, California
