OmniSTAR, a member of the Fugro group, launches a new VBS (Virtual Base Station) capable receiver this month. This receiver, the 5120VBS, has an excellent GPS measurement performance. The 12-channel receiver allows users to track up to 12 GPS satellites (when using OmniSTAR 11 GIS + 1 Geo stationary). The OmniSTAR Virtual Base Station (VBS) technology provides users with accurate positioning with a correction message further enhanced for their location. This multiple reference station solution can provide accuracy to within one meter.
This receiver includes a new feature called coasting technology. Using the coasting technique, the 5120 VBS receiver can work up to 20 minutes without an Omnistar correction update. The coasting technique estimates the deviation of the GPS satellites in view. Normally the last known corrections are used and they become invalid after +- 5 minutes.
