In support of the satellite-based communications of a U.S. government agency is the reason for a $1.5 million order for such equipment, awarded to Comtech EF Data Corporation, a subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corporation (NASDAQ:CMTL). This order includes the company’s CDM-600L and CDM-710 Satellite Modems with bandwidth-efficient technologies. The CDM-600L features bandwidth-efficient forward error correction (FEC) and Low Density Parity Check (LDPC). In conjunction with LDPC is 8-QAM modulation for maximizing satellite transponder use.
The CDM-710 Satellite Modems are standards-based and support the evolving Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) standard DVB-S2. There is the potential for increased bandwidth utilization with DVB-S2, achieved through a broad range of modulation and coding formats that allow users to tailor links for available bandwidth and power for link performance optimization.
This contract comes on the heels of last weeks $1.3 million contract from Optus Networks PTY Limited (Optus) of Sydney, Australia to another subsidiary, Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation. This contract calls for the firm to provide satellite network infrastructure equipment and all related technical services in support of the Australian Defense Force—Melville, New York-August 29, 2007
