The humanitarian calling operations of Télécoms Sans Frontières (TSF) continues as more and more survivors of the killer quake in Pisco, Peru, are offered the opportunity to call their loved-ones outside the affected area. More than 600 families have already taken advantage of this free service.
A TSF team also traveled to a mountainous region located at 4,500 meters and not covered by traditional communication networks. As rescue teams report their hope for finding additional survivors of the quake is diminishing, 17 aid agencies such as the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination teams (UNDAC), the World Food Programme, the International Federation of the Red Cross, Oxfam or Médecins du Monde Spain used TSF’s two communication centers in Pisco to maintain contact with their headquarters—Paris, France—August 28, 2007
