LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: August 14, 2007—Satnews Daily—NDS has signed an agreement with Vision TV to provide them with VideoGuard conditional access and MediaHighway middleware as well as future enhancements. Vision TV is the first government-licensed DTH satellite pay-TV operator in the Ukraine.
The NDS platform also provides Vision TV with MPEG-4 compression via satellite as well as an electronic program guide. There are approximately 17 million TV households in the country, but only about 3 million of them are cable subscribers, 20 percent of them in Kiev. Vision TV’s long term strategy is to establish themselves as the market leader for digital pay-TV and to use the NDS platform in ways to help protect their business due to the incorporated security features. Ukrainian pay-TV has suffered from a history of piracy in the past. Premium content will be made available in both Russian and Ukrainian languages.
NDS Group plc is a majority owned subsidiary of News Corporation. They supply open end-to-end digital technology and services to pay-TV operators and content providers. Vision TV started up in 2006 in Kiev and will be transmitting using MPEG-4 and DVB-S2 technologies.
