Cyber Security Webinar from Inmarsat and PORT-IT to be Conducted on April 9

Inmarsat is joining with partner PORT-IT to run a cyber security webinar for superyacht and yacht management professionals on Thursday, April 9.

Entitled ‘Could you spot the signs of a cyber-attack?,’ the special online event will update participants on the most effective measures to ensure on-board systems are properly protected and will also provide advice on how to identify the tell-tale signs of a cyber-attack.

Yacht owners, captains, ETOs, crew, as well as anyone involved in yacht management, services and charter, are invited to register and submit questions for the two expert speakers: Inmarsat’s Peter Broadhurst, SVP, Yachting and Passenger, and PORT-IT’s Youri Hart, CEO.

As the expansion of digitalization in the yachting sector continues, more cyber attacks are threatening vessel systems, the integrity of personal data and the on-board IT infrastructure. Despite this, more than 80 percent of captains, chief engineers and ETOs claim to have a lack of awareness about cyber security, according to the Inmarsat Superyacht Connectivity Report 2019.

Peter Broadhurst

Broadhurst said that Inmarsat is looking forward to joining forces with PORT-IT to raise awareness about this important topic. Unfortunately, many professionals in the superyacht industry are not fully conversant on the most effective measures to ensure cyber security and how to maintain a secure system core on-board. Inmarsat wants to use this platform to help people become better prepared to manage the risks to their yacht and to take protective steps to protect themselves from this danger. The reality is that modern vessels and seafarers are prime targets for cyber-attacks and those using just a standard antivirus program are vulnerable. However, with an in-depth, multi-layer cyber defence, today’s vessels can be protected.

Inmarsat has developed its Fleet Secure Portfolio to provide a comprehensive solution, consisting of Fleet Secure UTM (Unified Threat Management), Fleet Secure Endpoint, and Fleet Secure Cyber Awareness.

The webinar takes place on Thursday, April 9, at 8:3 0a.m. and 4:30 p.m., BST. Anyone interested in joining can find out more and register at this direct link...

Additionally, Peter Broadhurst is a co-speaker at this week's Inmarsat/PORT-IT cyber security webinar.
