ULA Atlas V Is Rollin’ For MUOS-2 (Launch)

Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. (July 17, 2013) - A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rolls out for launch at Space Launch Complex-41 with the U.S. Navy’s Mobile User Objective System- 2 (MUOS-2) spacecraft. Launch is set for Friday, July 19 at 8:48 a.m. at the opening of the 44-minute window. MUOS is a next-generation narrowband tactical satellite communications system designed to significantly improve beyond-line-of-sight communications for U.S. forces on the move. MUOS will provide military users 10 times more communications capacity over the existing system by leveraging 3G mobile communications technology, and will provide simultaneous voice and data capability.

The United Launch Alliance Atlas V vehicle was rolled to Space Launch Complex 41 in preparation for the U.S. Navy’s Mobile User Objective System- 2 (MUOS-2) mission. I have included some photos from the rollout and a caption. The launch is scheduled to liftoff on Friday, July 19 at the opening of a 44-minute launch window that opens at 8:48 a.m. EDT. Today’s L-2 forecast continues to show a 40 percent chance of favorable weather conditions for launch.
