On February 4, 2026, OHB Hellas and Parsimoni announced a strategic joint project to launch a secure, sovereign in-orbit software platform designed to accelerate value creation for European space missions.
This collaboration integrates OHB Hellas’ Versal Orbital HPC hardware with Parsimoni’s Satellite App Store, which is powered by the security-first SpaceOS operating system. The initiative aims to provide a flexible, high-performance foundation for the next generation of software-defined satellites and in-orbit services.
The joint solution is built upon a Zero Trust architecture and incorporates advanced security measures, including Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), CCSDS/SLDS standards, and formal verification. These features enable mission operators to deploy, manage, and update software applications in orbit with significantly reduced development effort and mission risk. By providing a “sovereign” platform, the project directly supports Europe’s strategic autonomy in space, ensuring that sensitive defense and governmental missions can operate on secure, locally developed infrastructure.
A key component of this partnership is the integration of Parsimoni’s Satellite App Store, a project developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA). This marketplace allows satellite operators to monetize unused onboard capacity by hosting third-party applications, essentially creating an “Airbnb for satellites” model. The first commercial offering under this collaboration will combine the App Store with the OHB Versal Orbital HPC hardware and will feature OHB’s specialized Fire and Cloud Detection applications to demonstrate immediate utility for Earth observation.
The project addresses the growing demand for flexibility in spacecraft operations. While traditional satellites are often locked into fixed mission profiles, this new platform utilizes virtualization techniques and high-performance data processing to allow satellites to be repurposed mid-mission. This shift toward “Satellite-as-a-Service” allows for real-time adaptation to emerging needs, such as reconfiguring sensors for high-resolution imaging of specific disaster areas or optimizing resource utilization across a shared constellation.
