Space Solar, provider of space-based solar power, has appointed Richard Winslade as Chief Finance Officer (CFO) and member of the board. A former Head of Technology, Media, and Telecom Advisory at the Royal Bank of Scotland, Winslade brings a wealth of experience in investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, and digital infrastructure finance to Space Solar at a pivotal moment in its growth journey.
With a track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure investment, Winslade’s career highlights include raising $330 million in special purpose vehicle (SPV) debt financing for open-access fiber optic broadband infrastructure in the United States — an industry first. His expertise in structuring complex financial deals will be instrumental in advancing Space Solar’s ambitious plans to revolutionize global energy through space-based solar power.
As CFO, Winslade will lead Space Solar’s fundraising strategy and investor relations, expanding its international investor base to support an upcoming high-efficiency terrestrial power beaming demonstration within the next 18 months. His appointment signals the company’s intent to accelerate the commercialization of space-based solar power, unlocking new avenues for clean, reliable, and scalable energy solutions.
Looking further ahead, Space Solar plans to secure funding over the next five years, facilitating the development of a mass-manufacturable satellite design and its first commercial launch. With the right combination of clients, funders, and production supply chain partners, Space Solar is poised to establish space-based solar power as a major new energy industry rivaling existing terrestrial energy markets in scale and impact, and creating the demand driver for new space capabilities which will spark the next economic revolution in space.
