Seraphim Capital’s Space Camp in Mission 4 Names Seven New Startups

October 22, 2019

Seraphim Capital has revealed the startups that are participating in Mission 4 of the Seraphim Space Camp program, the UK’s first dedicated accelerator for global startups in the SpaceTech industry.

Featuring seven new startups, the accelerator program is again being run from the offices of global law firm Dentons at London’s St. Pauls.

Launched by Seraphim Capital in 2018, Seraphim Space Camp is a nine-week program, culminating in an Investor Day. The first three cohorts (comprising 23 companies in total) have collectively raised or had offers of £26 million in private investment and £10 million in grants and have created 81 job opportunities, since completing the program. Partners of the program include: Dstl, Airbus, Dentons, Cyient, the European Space Agency, Rolls-Royce, KSAT, EUTELSAT, and SA Catapult.

The Mission 4 program includes 19 full days in person, and corporate discovery days with Airbus, Cyient, European Space Agency, and Satellite Applications Catapult. It also includes a series of workshops and one-to-one mentoring sessions from SpaceTech professionals, advisors, and investors, and pitch practice sessions. There will also be 13 fireside chats and keynotes during the program, with speakers including some of the world’s leading SpaceTech entrepreneurs and investors.

Rob Desborough, Investment Director at Seraphim Capital and Director of the Seraphim Space Camp accelerator, said that following the success of the previous three cohorts, the company is incredibly excited to welcome seven new startups for Mission #4. Previous alumni have raised or had offers of £26 million, which is a testament to the success of the accelerator program and the relationships forged during the nine-week period. The aim of the program is to identify the top one per cent of seed-stage SpaceTech startups. Seraphim believes each of the new seven startups embarking on Mission 4 companies has the potential to make a significant commercial impact across their specific markets.

Full information about the cohort members follows…

Modularity Grid
Cloud-enabled platform that increases the life and reliability of satellite power systems by making them inherently flexible. In a small satellite, power is a scarce commodity, and unreliable power systems are most frequently responsible for expensive failures and delays. Modularity Grid's technology is equipping satellite manufacturers (OEMs) like Airbus, to deliver robust, high performance small satellites, that are able to last longer in Space.

Evolve Dynamics
Evolve Dynamics is a UK-based designer and builder of best-in-class all-weather aircraft UAV (RPAS/drone) systems, sensors, and software for exploration, observation, detection, and surveillance. The systems are designed for emergency services, disaster relief, the energy sector, and security/defence.

PowerMarket
PowerMarket is using satellite data and proprietary deep-learning mapping and monitoring technology to help the solar energy sector optimize grid management and energy trading, while helping policymakers and real estate asset managers identify optimal solar sites. Supported by Oxford University Innovation and European Space Agency BIC, PowerMarket has already completed a PoC with a Fortune 500 energy utility company.

Evince Technology
Evince Technology is developing a fundamentally new class of solid-state electron devices based on synthetic-diamond that offers a significant improvement in performance, robustness, life-time, and operating costs to satellite electronics, communications, propulsion systems, and many other terrestrial applications.

Satellite Vu
Global Infrared intelligence from space — Satellite Vu can monitor the near real-time temperature of every building on the planet to determine valuable insights into economic activity, energy efficiency, and carbon footprint.

Hooley Research
Hooley Research has developed a revolutionary ground antenna that communicates with LEO satellite constellations. With far higher performance and much lower weight than current solutions, and sub-$1000 cost, this flat tracking-antenna will be key to providing high-speed Broadband, ready for the global LEO-sat service launch in 2022.

DroneLab
Aerial sensors are generating large volumes of data at increasing frequencies. DroneLab is a SaaS platform that enables drone operators to efficiently view, store, and share data from airborne sensors. DroneLab helps drone operators to demonstrate capability, unlock new potential from their data, and increase their profitability. Working with drone operators is just the beginning — DroneLab can help anyone working with very large image files quickly, securely, and easily.
