Having Several HTS Moments In London In December @ GVF/EMP Roundtable

November 26, 2014

[SatNews] The 22nd event in the GVF-EMP Oil & Gas Communications Conference Series drew to a highly successful close in Kuala Lumpur on November 20th, 2014.

Two-days of dynamic and informative dialogue were highly indicative of the importance of the oil and gas sector to the communications industries, of the centrality of satellite communications solutions to the oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) environment, and of the increasingly evident importance of high throughput satellite (HTS) technology and services in energy resource exploitation.

The December London Roundtable will be the third annual event of its kind for Europe and will be sponsored by Intelsat, Inmarsat, Avanti, C-COM Satellite Systems, and Advantech Wireless. Organizations across the solutions provider and user communities have been invited to contribute to the event program, which will comprise an Opening Keynote Presentation by Stéphane Chenard, Senior Analyst, Euroconsult, to be followed by a series of interactive Roundtable/panel sessions.

A total of 115 delegates and speakers contributed to GVF Oil & Gas Communications South East Asia 2014: Evolving the ‘Big Data’ Digital Oilfield for Offshore & Deep Water, the seventh event in the series to focus on the South East Asian region of the energy vertical market. The Kuala Lumpur event was sponsored by Intelsat, SpeedCast, RigNet, Hermes Datacomms, MajuNusa and ScopeTel, and was supported by Petronas ICT, as well as by the Asia Pacific Satellite Communications Council (APSCC).

Martin Jarrold, Chief of International Program Development with GVF, and chairman of the Kuala Lumpur conference, said, “Many of the conference presentations, and much of the following audience interaction, focused on HTS, which fully anticipated a wider HTS-related dialogue scheduled to take place in London on December 2nd & 3rd at the GVF High Throughput Satellites—London Roundtable 2014: The Game-Changer in Action event at the Strand Palace Hotel.” The London Roundtable/panel sessions will include:

Roundtable 1/Technology
Contributing to this session will be moderator Martin Jarrold, Chief of International Program Development, GVF; Krishnan Raghavan, Senior Program Director, Business Development, Orbital Sciences Corp; Simon Gatty-Saunt, Regional Vice President, Europe Data & Global Mobility Services, SES; Paul Dodson, Programme Manager, Hughes; and, Peter Syverson, Manager, Customer Solutions Engineering, Intelsat.

Roundtable 2/Services
Moderated by Stephane Chenard, Senior Analyst, Euroconsult, this session will feature Renato Goodfellow, Head of Global Satellite, BT; David Harper, Chief Executive Officer, iSAT Networks; and others to be confirmed.

Roundtable 3/Deployment
This panel will feature, among others, Martin Jarrold, Chief of International Program Development, GVF, as moderator; Kevin Blyth, Strategic Marketing Manager, Harris CapRock; Drew Klein, Director, Business Development, C-COM Satellite Systems; Brendan O'Mahony, Director, Market Access & Licensing, Access Partnership; and, Mark Lambert, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Managing Director, EMEA, Advantech Wireless.

Roundtable 4/Solutions Engineering
Led by moderator Martin Jarrold, Chief of International Program Development, GVF, contributing to this dialogue will be Denis Sutherland, Senior Systems Engineering Manager, iDirect; Alvaro Sanchez, Sales Manager, Satellite Monitoring Systems, Integrasys; Martin Coleman, Executive Director, IRG.

Roundtable 5/Users
Featuring in this dialogue will be Bill Green, Global Account Director, Hermes Datacomms; Nigel Fry, WBU-ISOG and Head of Distribution, BBC Global News; Martyn Hopkins, Product Sales Director, SIS LIVE; and, Ric VanderMeulen, Vice President, General Manager, Government SatCom, ViaSat. The moderator will be Elisabeth Tweedie, Owner, Definitive Direction.

Roundtable 6/Backhaul
In this session, David Howgill, President, Huckworthy will moderate discussion between Kumar Singarajah, Director, Regulatory Affairs & Business Development, Avanti; Bob Cupples, Chief Executive Officer & President, SCS Networks; Mark Briggs, Director of Sales, SiRRAN Communications; and Trevor Willoughby, Senior Key Account Director, Intelsat.

Another Roundtable session will include a focus on Network Security and the formation, earlier this year, of the GVF Cyber Security Task Force which is headed by Rakesh Bharania, Tactical Operations, Cisco Systems. This session will also include a contribution from Andrew Faiola, Director, Europe, Sales, with Intelsat.

Paul Stahl, Managing Partner of EMP, pointed out that, “It is particularly noteworthy that there will be significant emphasis during the London program on just how to more effectively ‘monetize’ HTS—an issue which has assumed a considerably heightened profile of late. For more information on the full conference program for the London Roundtable, please contact the Series organizers: [email protected] or [email protected]. Additionally, you may consult the event website at https://www.uk-emp.co.uk/current-events/. Speaking opportunities for the London program are still available.”

Martin Jarrold also noted that, “The first day of the Roundtable program will be followed by the pre-Christmas Social Gathering of the BSN-SSPI (UK Chapter) in the Strand Palace Hotel Lounge Bar. Held in association with the GVF London HTS Roundtable 2014, attendees are invited to come and chat, network, and mingle with industry colleagues, and to discuss the events of the first day of the Roundtable, or just catch up with the latest news. The gathering is open to all.”
