MTN Satellite Communications (MTN) announced the formation of a new business unit that will offer customers the ability to transmit any type of broadcast content from just about anywhere in the world. The company has long been the trusted transmitter of broadcast quality video and audio for major, remote events whether on a ship, train, from the battlefield, or even from a submerged submarine.

All the major U.S. networks have called on MTN at one time or another to have content sent back for their morning shows, nightly news, or live prime time events from some of the most remote and toughest terrains on the planet. Most recently, (June 10, 2012), MTN delivered the largest live broadcast to date from a moving vessel at sea when it provided a continuous uplink from  Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas for real-time broadcast insertions of the ship’s Hairspray production show to the 2012 Tony Awards televised on the CBS network. The broadcast took place from the ship in the open ocean between the islands of The Bahamas and Haiti and delivered the live video coverage back to CBS in the Beacon Theater in New York City, NY.

There are multiple-use cases for implementing this type of capability ranging from entertainment to research to supporting mission-critical military operations. In addition to the recent Tony Awards, MTN’s mobile broadcast track record includes:

—NBC– a Ford F350 vehicle retrofitted by MTN with live television and satellite transmission continuously broadcasted reports from Iraq
—Disney Cruise Line – hosts live radio broadcasts from the Disney Ships

• CNN – hosted a show on the anniversary of the Titanic aboard Azamara Club Cruises’ Azamara Journey and broadcasted it to its international markets around the world
• Radio station broadcasts – stations bring “prizewinners” on a cruise and actually do their shows remotely from the vessel
