Of Interest To SatBroadcasting™ Professionals… NAB 2011 Wonderments…

April 11, 2011

  • Atlona Technologies® unveiled its new AT-3GSDI-HD2 3G-SDI/HD-SDI/SD-SDI to HDMI with stereo audio converter, shown for the first time at the 2011 NAB Show. Guaranteeing no signal loss, the AT-3GSDI-HD2 fully supports — and auto detects — all 3G/HD/SD-SDI audio formats up to 8-channel and is able to send audio though the HDMI port as well as through a separate stereo audio output when a DVI display is being used. Ideal for the broadcast industry, the AT-3GSDI-HD2 is the perfect solution for monitoring and pre- and post-production where SDI camera or computer SDI output needs to be converted to work with HDMI or DVI displays. With a 0.1-millisecond delay, the unit is faster than any other SDI-type monitor on the market. Providing full EDID integration, the AT-3GSDI-HD2 features a re-clocked SDI loop-out to allow daisy chaining or connection to a local SDI display. The unit offers a locking HDMI port for broadcast applications and a locking 5-V power supply, with an optional USB power supply available.

  • Miranda Technologies has strengthened its fully integrated, IT-based playout solution to address multiple key workflow and quality issues faced by playout facilities. This new playout solution combines the iTX automation and playout with Miranda’s graphics, monitoring and infrastructure systems. The graphics capabilities of the iTX automated playout system have been enhanced with Miranda’s channel branding workflow tools, which automate the creation of schedule awareness graphics. The tight integration between the graphics tools and the automation playlist simplifies graphics preparation, and allows dynamic schedule awareness channel branding to be prepared with highly streamlined workflows. The monitoring capabilities of the playout solution have been strengthened by a tight integration between iTX, the Kaleido multi-viewer range, and the iControl Playout Manager facility monitoring. This monitoring system can display automation events on the monitor wall and desktop, such as current and next event information, as well as alarms to highlight issues like missing content. The health of the overall playout system is also fully integrated in the monitoring, including the IT servers and IP network. integrated with the iTX automation and playout system, the new VOD Publishing solution enables live content to be quickly converted to produce C3, C7, Premium and other VOD variants. This directly addresses the increased cost and time challenges presented by popular “TV Everywhere” and “Catch Up TV” initiatives. The iTX IT-based automated playout at the heart of the solution uses enterprise grade IT servers and software to unify and streamline ingest, media management, schedule management, asset management, automation, master control, graphics and multi-format playout. This architecture reduces the complexity of a facility and simplifies maintenance, while improving the quality of service. It also delivers unprecedented resilience and scalability, along with exceptionally fast new channel deployment.

  • Telecast Fiber Systems has launched their Python 3G, the latest release of the Company’s Python multichannel fiber optic HD/SDI transport system. The new Python 3G offers the industry’s broadest range of digital transmission rates while maintaining the signal quality and reliability required in today’s most demanding studio and outside broadcasting environments. The Telecast Fiber Systems Python 3G enables fiber optic transport for up to four groups of HD/SDI channels, all in a compact 1RU frame. For example, operators can select a transmitter and a receiver frame for eight or 16 channels in one direction or two transceiver frames for channels in each direction — or they can use Telecast’s Rattler™ miniature transmit/receive modules in conjunction with Python 3G frames to distribute signals to and from several locations simultaneously. As most Telecast SD/HD products can interface with the Python 3G, broadcasters can create the exact topology required for a given operation. In addition, the Python 3G’s coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) capabilities enable it to carry up to 16 HD signals on a single optical fiber while remaining compatible with earlier versions of the Python. The system accepts signals ranging from 19.4Mb/s ATSC to 3Gb/s uncompressed HD/SDI, and supports numerous interface standards including applicable SMPTE, ATSC, and DVB recommendations.
