Failure Analysis has partnered with one of the largest satellite producers to provide satellite concepts for DUMSTR NRO/DARPA satellites. DUMSTR (defense, underground, mapping, satellite tracking and ranging) will provide locations of underground civil and military resources around the world as well as geodetic science information for geologists. DUMSTR is expected to advance earthquake prediction reliability to a new level by identifying lava chamber growth rates as well as tectonic movement underground before it reaches the surface. The results of this partnership will provide the up-front satellite concepts that will revolutionize the way satellites will be produced in the future. Over 100 DUMSTR satellites will be the first designed using prognostic technology. Prognostics, also used to design the Air Force/Navy F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, is short for pro-active diagnostics, and shores up current reliability analysis that cannot resolve the high number launch vehicle failures and in-orbit infant mortality failures that plague the satellite industry. Prognostic technology is a boost to the reliability engineering analysis used in current diagnostic technology to increase equipment and vehicle reliability. DUMSTR will increase satellite equipment reliability so high that eliminates the need for redundant equipment to meet the 10 year mission life. DUMSTR is expected to increase pressure on NASA to keep the NASA Space Shuttle flying longer so that it can be used to fill the DUMSTR satellite matrix quickly. DUMSTR is expected to strain the military launch vehicle industry by requiring launch services for over 50 launches in 2 years—Salinas, California
