- Boeing Is Definitely Aware—The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] earlier this month submitted a bid to the U.S. Air Force earlier for the Self-Awareness Space Situational Awareness (SASSA) program. The program, valued at approximately $30 million, will demonstrate a system that detects threats to U.S. space assets using instruments hosted on satellites. - Phoenix Is Also Guided By Honeywell Technology — Honeywell (NYSE:HON) has revealed the company’s Miniature Inertial Measurement Units (MIMUs) helped successfully guide NASA‘s Phoenix Mars Lander to a safe landing May 25th on the planet’s surface. Honeywell MIMUs, each of which weighs approximately nine pounds and measure 6.6-inches in height and nine-inches in diameter, provide data to assist the vehicle guidance. - Training Is Important Before Observing Earth — MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA) has announced their company’s U.S. Information Systems subsidiary, MDA Systems Inc., has been selected to provide a multi-million dollar training solution to a foreign government. This information solution will provide a training environment for new operators prior to working on the customer’s operational satellite ground system, also previously provided by MDA.
- Single Chipping Away At GNSS RF — NemeriX, a fabless semiconductor company specializing in ultra low power, high-performance A-GPS solutions for GPS and location-based service (LBS) products, has been granted a patent for its new single-chip multi-band GNSS RF receiver technology that enables GNSS devices to acquire parallel signals in all frequency bands from the GPS, GLONASS and Galileo systems. The patent – number US7’358’896 – covers NemeriX’s fully programmable single frequency synthesizer innovation and has been awarded in the US.
