Providing for the upgrade of the integrated sensor assembly components for the Alternative Infrared Satellite System is a new contract to Science Applications International Corp. The award will allow for R&D in accordance with the company’s statement of work entitled risk reduction of the Alternative Infrared Satellite System. The results will yield a space qualifiable configuration of the integrated sensor assembly and the upgrades will allow enhanced ground environmental testing of that assembly to determine that it is a “Space Qualified” design. This should also reduce the risk associated with building space qualification satellites in the future. The contract is for just over 31M/USD, of which nearly 19M/USD has been obligated.
