COM DEV Configures ComSat Contract
The Eutelsat KA-SAT communications satellite now has COM DEV International Ltd. on board. The firm has received a 4.7M/CDN authorization to proceed (ATP) from EADS Astrium to supply multiplexer and switch equipment for the comsat. KA-SAT is scheduled to launch mid-2010 and will be the cornerstone of a major new satellite infrastructure program to significantly expand capacity for consumer broadband services across Europe and the Mediterranean Basin. Plus, there will be new opportunities for local and regional TV markets. KA-SAT will be configured with more than 80 spotbeams. A network of eight gateways will be managed by Eutelsat, which will provide access to KA-SAT. This satellite program represents the first, fully dedicated Ka-band satellite being manufactured for the European market—Cambridge, Ontario
