SpaceDev, Inc. [OTCBB: SPDV] has been awarded a design and development subcontract from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Space Vehicles Directorate, for development of cost effective deployable reflectors for satellites. The award is a Phase 1 Small Business Innovation Research contract which will extend SpaceDev’s deployable structures capabilities. The contract is for approximately eight months, during which time SpaceDev expects to demonstrate the feasibility of a new class of deployable reflectors system.
The company has also been awarded a contract by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center for the research and development of its nexgen proprietary annular hybrid rocket motors. The contract work will be performed over a six-month period, during which SpaceDev is expected to conduct development testing with the objective of validating performance parameters. This technology could provide significant improvements to hybrid rockets in terms of both performance and packaging efficiency that could significantly broaden their overall applicability and value—Poway, California
