digiBIZ—DIRECTV and Liberty Media may be a good deal closer for their deal, thanks to Kevin Martin, the FCC‘s Chairman. He has gone on record as approving the controlling stake agreement, bound by some conditions (negation of any Puerto Rico broadcasting overlap, unaffiliated programming services selections, regional sports and more), with the meeting on February 26th seemingly set for a vote on the pending transaction. The new deal would place the controlling interest in DIRECTV in Liberty Media’s pocket and away from News Corp. Such would make John Malone delighted, and Rupert Murdoch not so happy.
