The World Teleport Association (WTA) has released a new white paper on the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) telecom funding mandates and the significant effects they have on satellite service providers operating in the United States. Universal Service: Satellite Service Companies and the FCC Funding Mandates provides an overview and guidelines for U.S. satellite service providers and particularly the teleport community. Written by White & Case attorney and satellite industry veteran Maury Mechanick, the white paper focuses primarily on the Universal Service Fund (USF) but also covers the Telecommunications Relay Services Fund (TRS Fund), the Local Number Portability Administration (LNPA), and the administration of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). The vast reach of the funding mandates covers all telecommunications companies that provide services between states. An executive summary of the white paper is available on WTA’s web site on the Research & White Papers page. Full text is available free to members of WTA and accredited press, and for sale to non-members via the WTA website.
