Military space programs, satellites, missiles, systems… all cost big bucks! To accommodate all of the needs for such programs moving forward, the U.S. Air Force has requested $11.9 billion from Congress to fund these programs during fiscal year 2009. The $11.3 billion appropriated by Congress for fiscal 2008 ends on September 30th. Space spending is about $8.6 billion of the requested funding. This year and next, the USAF will be launching five nexgen spacecraft. These include GPS satellites for far better communications. Additional research and four rocket launches will require some $1.24 billion in funding. Then the funding of the EELV program (Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle) is going to need about $6.6 billion.
