According to the Chinese vice minister in charge of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence, the life expectancy of Chinese homemade satellites will likely double by 2010, up from their current eight year life expectancy. The spokesperson, Sun Laiyan, who also happens to be the chief of the China National Space Administration, added his country would strive to boost the life expectancy of their satellite designs in synchronous orbit to four or five years by the end of the 11th, Five-Year period, which is 2006 to 1020. The Chinese goal is to have their own, homemade comsats replace foreign made equipment by 2010, as well.
