“Consumer Navigation Devices and Systems” is the title of a new study from ABI Research. This report examines the major navigation features, trends, drivers and barriers. Also included in the study is a detailed SWOT (Strengths/Weaknesses/Opportunities/Threats) analysis for each form factor. There are also forecasts for shipments and revenue. The need for such a study is quite evident—the consumer navigation market has experienced unprecedented levels of activity and growth this year.
This growth was mostly driven by personal navigation devices (PNDs), which are also an established, mass market CE (Consumer Electronics) category. The preferred form factor will remain the dedicated PND but expect handset-based systems for pedestrian use and new outdoor uses as well as portable media players, ultra mobile PCs, Internet tablets and mobile Internet devices to also make their appearance. According to ABI Research, global sales volume of PNDs will have a volume of more than 100 million units by 2011. Company website: www.abiresearch.com—New York, New York
